Courier Managerial Drug Ring Uncovered

AP (Associated Poets) Urbana, Illinois

It is snowing again.
I was desolate, am euphoric.
I ran into Jon at Art Mart.
He and I used to wait tables together at the Courier.
He told me a funny story.
He told me that our former night manager
was arrested for embezzling from the Courier.
At his apartment police found at least a pound of marijuana.

I stammered: "I don't know what to say, I-"

He said: "Don't say anything. Just laugh."

A wiser piece of advice I've seldom received.

It's hard to explain.
I remember how Jon and I, waiting tables at the Courier,
might spend nine hours out of an 11-hour shift laughing.
Usually at the owner. Or State Representative Johnson.

Ah, the Courier.

I guess they're hiring.
