reversed a rapist's conviction
on the grounds that
a woman's jeans cannot be removed
without her help.
Here in Italy,
they wear strange jeans
stranger arguments
so difficult to remove
"I will never believe in justice
again," the victim declares
her conviction, helpless,
reversed.
Today women here help each other
defiantly into jeans
apparently invulnerable
but stripped of legal protection
without their help
they are angry
their denim chastity secured
until the decision is overturned
