Allegedly by Joe Futrelle, an alleged poet

Alleged Autumn

the alleged early september
full moon is allegedly waning,
allegedly falling behind
(or allegedly gaining
on, can you remember?)
this allegedly rushed sun,
who allegedly no longer
hovers in the alleged treetops,
allegedly will not linger
for us: our allegedly grilled hot
dog meals, our allegedly sunned slumber,
our alleged evening afternoons,
our alleged languor.

death allegedly telegraphs itself
through alleged stems, the leaves
allegedly a dry brown allegedly like muffins;
alleged plastic skeletons line
an alleged drug store shelf.

my own alleged life allegedly turns
on this alleged season, the first
day of first grade it allegedly rained
on this alleged brick street, and
this alleged park; my alleged tenth birthday
allegedly around the corner; up the alleged IC
my allegedly newborn sister allegedly came home
just shy of winter,
an alleged light November snow.
